deer season 2009

It's finally here!  2009 Opening Deer Season.  It only seems like yesterday that us deer hunters were putting away out guns and bows from last years dear season.  The years blow by faster and faster as we get older but one thing is for sure.... Every year when the open season starts for deer hunting, we forget all the crap that might be going on with our life.  Am I right?

For the ones that can't wait...

Just sit back, close your eyes and think about how wonderful it would be right now, to wake up early.... because you want to, and pack your truck with all the gear you will need for the days hunt.  You start driving down the road to the nearest Waffle House for the morning breakfast. You take a few sips of coffee while enjoying the camaraderie with your buddies.  The food their for some reason is better then a 5 star restaurant.  What can I say, Waffle House makes some good food.

As you finish up you jump in the trucks and head down the road to the next destination.

Now... Can't you just smell the air.  Not the smell of chicken coops, but the smell of burned leaves and hot boiled peanuts being cooked all night.  You peek out the window looking for any movement that might catch your eye in the dark night.  You start to think this is going to be your lucky day because you spot rabbits running from you as you pass a long them.  Don't lie, you know you do it...

You finally make it to your location and quietly work your way through the woods to your hunting spot.  Your heart is beating rapidly because of all the excitement of the opening day.  As the sun rises, you start to see the fog coming from your breath, you feel at total peace.  There is nothing on your mind, all the stress from work is gone.  It's not but a moment when you start hearing gun shots in the distance as the day begins.  You get this huge gut feeling that the big one is walking towards you.  It's only a matter of time you say to yourself.

Are you ready?
