Into The Wild - 2007 Movie
Emile Hirsch did such a incredible job playing the role of Chris McCandless. If you haven't seen the movie Into The Wild yet, stop what you are doing and rent the move now. This was based on a true story that was first printed back in 1995 called... can you guess? "Into The Wild" by Jon Krakauer. I never read the book but I sure did get the mp3 which can be found here. The movie was directed by Sean Penn and was released in 2007. Sean Peen did a great job telling the story.
You are probably thinking right now... wow this is old news... right? My answer to that is yes it is, but you can still read on, because you don't want to miss out.
I happen to watch the movie again not too long ago, which for some reason it seems to give me the chills. Why, I don't know. I think it might be because for a moment in time I picture myself in Chris's place, not everything though. I leave out the dying part.
Oops! If you haven't seen it yet, sorry, but it's true. Chris McCandless did die before he made it back to civilization. It's a sad ending, but what he did do is live an interesting life before he died. He lived life how he wanted to. Could you say that about your life?
Near the end of the movie, there was a moment of true wisdom that Chris wrote in a book that he had with him before he passed away. What he wrote has such a profound meaning- "Happiness only real when shared. "
What Chris wrote is something I think people today seem to forget. Read it again, Happiness only real when shared. For this article, I am going to use that quote to help make a point for hunting.
Have you ever been hunting by yourself, alone? It's not fun, nor safe for that matter. Hunting is a passing of time which can be shared with family and friends. Why do it alone? Hunting isn't just the killing of animals, but a bonding experience with you and nature. Yes, the harvest of a animal is part of the experience, but not the only reason. Sharing is the key. What Chris learned from his adventures gave him an insight that we sometimes never see until it's too late. This happened to be the same outcome for him as well. But we can learn from that.
If you love the outdoors and hunting, start sharing it with someone. You don't have to be a guru to introduce the basics. If you haven't realized by now that each year there are more and more anti-hunters trying to stop a sub culture which has been around forever. If you keep hunting alive by sharing with others, you will help preserve our right to hunt. It's like anything else, if we forget to pass down the knowledge, one day it will be lost. So start sharing.
Ok so you might be asking right now... why did you start off talking about the movie "Into The Wild"? What does it half to do with this.
Well... it seemed like a nice introduction. No need to worry, I am getting back to the movie.
There have been some really great movies made and I believe Into The Wild can be added to that list. The cinema photography was amazing. The landscapes that were shot were beautiful. You really could get the feeling like you were there. The movie did call out the idea of just living life to the fullest. Each one of us has a different idea of what living life means, but still has the same meaning. Mine is finding ways to enjoy the outdoors and hunting happens to be one of those enjoyments. Ok so the movie wasn't really about hunting, I get that, and this article was not focused on it either which I am sure you felt the same way. However, it was a great way to introduce this article. Wouldn't you say?
Again start sharing and let others enjoy the experiences you have, also if you haven't had the change to watch Into The Wild, rent it. You will love it.
