It's extremely easy to get stuck in a rut in our hunting tactics and strategies. I know I've been guilty of it many times. Weather you've been hunting for just a few years or for your entire life it's an easy thing to do and not even realize it! If you think about it, you probably have done it too. Here are a couple things that tend to lead us to that rut.
· We get to know a piece of land and get comfortable with it.
· We have success doing one thing and just keep doing it over and over.
These aren't totally bad things to do, it's just that they tend to make us tend to stop exploring and learning. The same holds true for the deer hunting knowledge and information we have. It's just human nature to not put in the effort to learn more as we get older. But if we just take the time to read about others deer hunting experiences and opinions and keep an open mind, We would find that our own deer hunting vision would expand greatly! We don't have to believe or agree 100% with what we read, but just be open to another view, and that tends to allow us to come up with our own new ideas.
The woods are an ever changing environment and whitetail deer are extremely good at adapting to changes around them. So we as deer hunters have to be just as good at adapting and changing our own hunting tactics. No matter how deep into the woods we travel to hunt whitetail, we have to be aware of how our presents change their behavior and how to adapt to it.
Often time's tactics that worked for Gramps don't necessarily work for us due to a variety of variables that we have to deal with that weren't present even 20 years ago. The point I'm trying to get across is that we have to keep an open mind and read as much as we can about others experiences and opinions on what to do to continue to be a successful whitetail deer hunter. On a lighter note, it also allows us to extend our deer hunting season (in our minds anyway) to be able to read and plan our strategies for the next deer hunting adventure! I know I thoroughly enjoy reading about hunting whitetail deer hunting when I'm not able to actually get out into the woods myself.
