In order to stay warm while hunting, it is imperative to know how to stay dry. Keeping warm and staying dry by dressing in layers can help to ensure that you comfortably enjoy your hunting experience.

Discover Ways to Stay Dry When Hunting

Step 1
Avoid wearing only cotton clothing when hunting. You may opt for your favorite cotton shirt on hunting day, but cotton actually draws body heat away when wet and offers virtually no warmth insulation. Pair up your favorite flannel shirt with a light, waterproof jacket to ensure you stay dry and warm while hunting.

Step 2
Layer fleece clothing with waterproof jackets and pants to stay dry when hunting. Fleece is lightweight, virtually silent during movement and provides optimum insulation. Fleece alone cannot stand up to precipitation and can be as detrimental as cotton when wet.

Step 3
Keep your valuables, such as your wallet and other items damageable by water, in a zip-lock bag. If you accidentally trip while hunting fowl in or near water, your important documents will remain dry and safe. This method will also provide some protection if you find yourself in a sudden rainstorm.

Step 4
Store items you may need in an emergency, such as matches or medicine, in empty film containers to ensure they stay dry while hunting. Place them in the shotgun shell holders of your hunting vest or in your pockets for easy access.

Step 5
Protect your feet with a reliable pair of boots that support your feet and keep them warm and dry in all elements. For warmer hunting weather, a pair of durable, uninsulated boots will suffice. However, in colder regions, your best bet is insulated boots.

Step 6
Keep your feet warm and dry in any situation, preventing hypothermia and general discomfort by sealing your boots with a beeswax waterproofing formula. Such a formula remains in the outer layer of the leather, creating a waterproof barrier against moisture.

Tips & Warnings
Don't forget to wear your thermal underwear under your hunting gear to ensure you stay warm and dry. Instead of wearing multiple, bulky layers of sweaters, flannel and fleece over your bib, opt to wear a good pair of thermals with a flannel or fleece shirt and a lightweight, waterproof jacket.
